Srinagar, Oct 11 (GNS): Two militants and as many air force commandos were killed and four soldiers injured in a fierce encounter at Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday.

A senior police officer told GNS that army’s 13 RR and SOG late last night launched cordon-and-search at Rakh-e- Hajin village following inputs about the presence of some LeT militants.

“As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches on wee hours, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a fierce gunfight between the two sides”, the officer said.

In the ensuing encounter sofar two militants have been killed and their identity are being ascertained, the officer said.

He said that six soldiers including two air force personnel (Garud wing) also sustained serious bullet wounds and have been immediately evacuated to military hospital for treatment.

However, both the air force personnel declared brought dead by the doctors on arrival, the officer said.

“In the intense operation this morning in Hajin, Bandipur, two militants were killed. Two Air Force personnel (Garud wing) lost their lives  in the action”, army’s Srinagar based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia in a statement said.

The spokesman said that the Air force men were operating with the Army for operational experience and training.

When reports last came in the search operation was going on in the area.
