Srinagar, June 8:(GNS) Three militants and an army man were killed in a fierce gunfight after troops intercepted infiltrators in Naugam sector near Line of Control in Handwara area of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
Official sources said that army’s 4/1 GR and 20 Dogra last night noticed a group of militants near LoC fence near Pika 1 and Pika 2 posts at Naugam after which they were challenged. As the troops challenged the militants, they opened fire which was retaliated, ensuing a gunbattle.
The gunfire between the two sides continued intermittently till morning and in the gunfight, three militants were killed. An army soldier was also killed in the firefight while another was injured. The slain was identified as Rifleman Rara Bahadur Ruka and injured was identified as Naik Jeet Bahadur Tahapa.
Sources said that the militants were given cover fire by Pakistan army in the area. The army recovered bodies of all the slain militants along with some arms and ammunition. The fresh firefight took place only a day after four militants were killed at Machil sector. Army said that the militants across the border have increased their activities and are trying to infiltrate in large numbers.(GNS)
