The attack on a doctor at SMHS Hospital allegedly by a cop while he was discharging his duties speaks volumes about where our society is heading towards. Interestingly, as per reports, the doctor was attending the mother of the same policeman to whom he fell victim to. Such alarming trend of violence that has caught our valley into is increasing with each passing day and we witness people resorting to violent methods even in trivial matters. Here is the case of a doctor, which is considered a noble profession, and it is shocking to see them being beaten. Such episodes have made it difficult for doctors to work in such hostile conditions. This mad cycle of atrocities must end and there should be no compromise in this regard. Whether we term the failure of hospital authorities or degradation of our moral and ethical standards, such incidents not only demoralise the entire medical fraternity but they also lose faith in the system as we have been seeing that the erring persons always get away from the clutches of law. We second the demand of doctor’s association that authorities should immediately bringing an ordinance wherein manhandling of any health personnel or damage to hospital infrastructure or equipment should be declared cognizable offence.
