Jammu, Aug 11: Six persons were killed and nine injured in a road accident in Jammu’s Doda district on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred when a vehicle carrying 15 persons fell into a deep gorge near Puneja village when its driver lost control.
All the occupants were rushed to a hospital where four were declared dead, the police said. Bad road conditions and rash driving often cause accidents in the hill district of Doda.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Yousaf Khan (80) Son of Wali Khan resident of Sunar Thawaha, Om Prakash (30) Son of Vidya Lal Resident of Bankhan Thawaha, Fazal Din Son of Roshan Din resident of Jandani, Punjab Singh Son of Khazan Chand Resident of Bonjwah, Rajeshwar Singh 45 Son of Bhuda Singh Resident of Ranka and one is still unidentified.
Three seriously injured persons, Pardeep Singh, Vansh Sharma and Kritika Sharma, were shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is in the national capital, expressed shock and grief over the death.
On hearing of the accident, the Chief Minister directed immediate evacuation of the injured for specialised treatment at Jammu hospitals.
Expressing concern over the rising road accidents and loss of lives, Mehbooba Mufti has directed the concerned Departments to undertake reviews and field exercises to minimise this trend and save precious lives.
