Srinagar, Oct 2: A police official was killed by militants on Monday evening at Padgampora village in Awantipora area in south Kashmir, where he had gone to attend a marriage function.

Official sources told news agency GNS that militants fired upon Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who’s Munshi of police station Awantipora, after asking him to accompany them in Padgampora village.

He was fired upon at a distance, leaving him critically injured, they said. Ashiq was shifted to nearby hospital but succumbed to the injuries on the way, they said. Government forces arrived on the attack spot and launched manhunt to nab the assailants, the sources said.

A resident of Kral Check area of Chadoora, Budgam, Ashiq survived at bid on life when his house was attacked during last year’s unrest, the sources said.
