Kupwara, Oct 11: Police on Wednesday arrested a notorious drug peddler from Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
“Based on specific information, the special team of District Police Kupwara has arrested one notorious drug peddler identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan alias Mann TA son of Inayatullah Khan of Boungam Haihama and recovered 2.5kgs of Charas from his possession,” a police official said. A Case (FIR No. 261/2017) u/s 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Kupwara and investigation was in progress.
During the special drive against drug peddlers, the Special team of District Police Kupwara has achieved major success by arresting 34 accused involved in drug peddling and narcotic smugglers including four cross LoC narcotic smugglers and cases under various sections of NDPS Act against them were registered. So far, 15.5 Kgs of Charas, 2 Kgs of Heroine, 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, huge quantity of codeine and many strips of capsule proxovan have been recovered from the possession of arrested accused persons.
While briefing the media, Shamsheer Hussain SSP Kupwara said that the arrested person was a notorious drug peddler of the district. He said that more arrests and recoveries are expected in future so as to bust the whole racket involved in sale of banned drugs and psychotropic substances which are involving the youth of the area. The SSP Kupwara also appealed the local people to come forward to assist the police in its special drive so as to make the north Kashmir district drug free. Local people of the area have eulogized the role of Kupwara Police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances which according to locals are ruining the health and future of the youth who requires special orientation, education for their bright career.
