Srinagar, Nov 14 (GNS): Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday asked mainstream politicians to shun their “fraudulent and deceitful politics”, saying that since 1931, people didn’t sacrifice to support any particular party or dynasty.
A Hurriyat (G) spokesperson in a statement said hypocrisy and treachery is the trait of National Conference and strongly criticized the former chief minister Omar Abdullah for his statement against Syed Ali Geelani.
He said people particularly youth are fully aware about the “treacherous role” played by NC leadership. He said NC since its inception has been playing “deceit and folly” and people in state are fully aware about their role.
“The life and contribution of Geelani is an open book,” the spokesperson said and asked all mainstream parties and their leadership to study entire record of state assembly and see that Geelani has never accepted the state as an integral part of India.
Defining the role played by Muslim United Front and its participation in elections held in 1987, Hurriyat spokesperson said that Front in a civilised and democratic way of achieving “freedom”, participated in those elections. “However through mass rigging, Indian authorities denied this democratic right and with the full support and blessings of New Delhi, NC grabbed power, particularly for their folly and bullying,” he said.
He asked Omar to explain about that “freedom mission” his grandfather followed and “when did Geelani beg for a berth in power corridors”.
“The two characters evidently differentiate the role played by Sheikh Abdullah and Syed Ali Geelani, as even on the floor of assembly while pronouncing his stand, Geelani always acknowledged Kashmir as a disputed territory,” he said.
“Geelani dedicated his entire life for the sacred cause of nation’s freedom and even at ninety is pursuing this mission with full dedication, while as Sheikh Abdullah played with the sentiments of his nation to secure material gains for his dynasty,” Hurriyat spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Geelani paid glorious tributes to slain youth Tyeb Majeed and Ashiq Hussain. He also expressed his deep grief over the demise of father of journalist Shabir ibn Yusuf and while extending his condolences prayed for departed soul. (GNS)
