Train services to remain suspended on Monday

Srinagar, July 2: Authorities have decided to suspend mobile internet as well as telephony in and around Malangpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on late Sunday evening.
A government official told news agency GNS that the decision to ‘shutdown’ mobile towers was taken following clashes between people and joint team of police and para military CRPF.
He said that all telecom companies were asked to shutdown the mobile towers at Awantipora and Pulwama district in a formal communication sent to them by police authorities.
Earlier, hundreds of people, sources said marched towards the Malangpora area where government forces laid siege amid specific inputs about the presence of two to three militants.
The locals are said to have taken to streets after group messages on social media including watzap groups, calling them to protect ‘three brethren’ trapped at Malangpora.
Besides, shutdown of the towers, the joint team of police, army’s 55 RR and CRPF have installed lighting facility around the suspected house and have sealed all the exit points to prevent militants from fleeing, sources told GNS.
Sources said that reinforcements of army are being sent to the area while helicopters were seen hovering around the Malangpora area.
Meanwhile, the government forces have launched cordon-and-search operation in several parts of south Kashmir including Kanjibal area of Tral.
In wake of cordon-and-search operation at Malangpora, railway authorities have decided to suspend Baramulla-Train services on (tomorrow) Monday.
