Srinagar, October 12 (GNS):Jammu and Kashmir Press Association (JKPA) today hailed State Government for acting against Joint Director, Information Department Kashmir Zahoor Ahmad Mir who was attached over “unfair distribution” of advertisements to newspapers on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued here, an emergency meeting of JKPA was held under the chairmanship of its President GH Kaloo and attended by respectable and senior members of the Association. They discussed problems being confronted by the media houses and took several decisions unanimously.
According to the JKPA statement, the members after debating and discussing the crisis emerging due to the “discriminatory distribution of advertisements by the Information Department, it was unanimously resolved that the JKPA disassociates from the JFNE and works under its own banner”.
Besides, they appreciated the action taken by the Minister in charge Information Department, Chowdry Zulfkar Ali, against the Joint Director Information Department Kashmir Wing for the alleged corrupt practices, the statement said.
“It needs to be stated that both the JDs of Kashmir and Jammu wings of the Information Department have been resorting to unfair distribution of advertisements and depriving the majority of Publishers of newspapers of their due share and quantity of Ads,” it said.
The members expressed optimism that the Minister shall ensure fair distribution of advertisements among the Media Houses to discourage favouritism and nepotism and allow the fourth estate to perform its professional obligations objectively.
Under Government order number 39 – ID of 2017, dated: 10 – 10 – 2017, Joint Director Information Kashmir was attached and an enquiry against him was ordered over allegations of irrational distribution of advertisements among print media for publication. (GNS)
