Srinagar, Jan 12: As a pioneering initiative to empower the Kashmiri Youth, a first of its kind, Chinar Skill Training Centre was inaugurated by Major General A K Singh, Kilo Force Commander at Haiderbeg on 11 January 2018, a defence spokesman in a statement issued here said.
Equipped with state of the art equipment, the unique centre will provide vocational / employable skills training to unemployed / unskilled youth through Government sponsored National Skill Development Corporation under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY), he said.
The public-private venture coordinated between the Army and Orion Edutech Pvt Ltd, Kolkata will impart highly skill based training to address the challenges of unemployment in the area. Chinar Skill Training Centre prior to its formal inauguration had already employed 12 local youth from the area as a staff/ trainer under NSDC for the training. These selected youth were provided with two weeks of specialised training at Budgam. Thus, the project in a true sense qualifies as ‘for the Kashmiri Youth, by the Kashmiri Youth’ self sustained project, he said.
In initial phase, the Centre will run courses in Food Processing and Information Technology training. Speaking on the occasion, Major General A K Singh lauded the efforts in creating such opportunities for the larger betterment of the society to improve socio-economic status. The opening ceremony witnessed highly encouraging response which was attended by hundreds of youth and other dignitaries. He also appealed the youth to come forward to make best use of this maiden opportunity and make themselves eligible for gainful employment schemes and earn sustainable livelihood. The youth who attended this elusive opportunity were found extremely jubilant to find such government sponsored skills related expertise, he said.
