Srinagar, October 25: The government forces once again launched massive searches in nearly two dozen villages of Shopian district today after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
Sources told news agency GNS that in the wake of recent killings and attacks on police and cops’ houses, the forces including army, CRPF and police cordoned off 20 villages of Shopian early Wednesday morning. Some of the villages which were placed under siege include Barbugh, Chitragaam, Turkawangam, Maldeera, Kashew, Nullayposhwari, Sugan, Heff, Shirmaal.
Local residents said that the continents of forces arrived in wee hours and started searches. They said that all the entry and exit points were sealed off and the searches were conducted till afternoon. During searches, the forces could not locate any militant in the areas which were under cordon and later the operation was called off without any incident of violence, the sources added.
Meanwhile, massive clashes erupted in Bellow Rajpora and Babgam Tahab villages of Pulwama district today. According to local sources, the forces launched searches at Bellow today in day hours following inputs about presence of militants. As the searches were started, locals hampered the operation by resorting to stone-pelting at Bellow. During clashes, the forces fired some aerial gunshots and later called off the operation.
The clashes also rocked the Babgam Tahab today till evening. The operation at Babgam was launched in the afternoon but local youths resorted to heavy stone-pelting on forces men. The police fired teargas shells and pellets towards protesters. Local sources said that three youths sustained minor injuries in the clashes. Due to the clashes, the operation in Babgam was called off without any conclusion. (GNS)
