Now that the United Nations has expressed concern over the recent incidents of rapes of young girls in India and Pakistan by terming the sexual assaults as “heartbreaking”, this shows the magnitude the crime has adopted. The world body has to rise above expressing concerns and take steps to address the issue through whatever possible means like creating awareness through access to education and women empowerment. Though no country on this planet is immune from the scourge of violence against women and girls, but this has to stop and stringent measures must be taken by the nations in this regard. This can be done through various programmes through UN sponsored organisations besides the world body should work with governments to try to get messages through to communities to respecting girls, to respecting women. The empowerment of women is still an unachieved goal and no stone should be left unturned to realise it.
