All roads lead to Hazratbal, Farooq among thousands of people converge at the revered shrine

Srinagar, Dec 1: Thousands of devotees from across the Kashmir Valley converged at the revered Hazratbal shrine here on Friday on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

Braving the chill, nearly twenty-five thousand people converged at the shrine for the Fajr (morning) prayers.

However, the biggest congregation was witnessed for the afternoon prayers as sea of people converged at the shrine and its adjacent sprawling lawns along the banks of Dal Lake.

Most people were seen folding their hands while some had tears trickling down their faces as they prayed. People also offered ‘Durud’ and recited the Holy Qur’an.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah visited Dargah Hazratbal shrine early morning on Friday and offered Fajar prayers there. He paid obeisance at the shrine and prayed for peace, harmony and prosperity in the State.

Party’s Working President Omar Abdullah visited Dargah Hazratbal for congregational Friday prayers and also offered obeisance at the shrine and prayed for peace, prosperity and stability in the State and also interacted with devotees, a spokesman said.

Omar was accompanied by senior party leaders including NC General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani.

Farooq and Omar extended greetings to the people of the State and the entire Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

Besides Hazratbal, congregational prayers were also held at Asarisharif Kalashpora, Jenab Sahib Soura, Lal Bazaar, Punjura Shopian, Khiram Sirhama Anantnag, Seer Hamadan, Kaba Marg, Qaimoh, Ahamshrief Bandipora and Hazrat Janbaz Wali (RA) Baramulla. Nightlong prayers were held across the Valley where imams threw light on the pious life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

A festive look prevailed for the past several days as various mosques and shrines in this summer capital of the state and other major towns were decked with lights.

Over one thousand private transport vehicles and State Road Transport Corporation buses ferried the devotees to and from Hazratbal while the authorities had enforced different traffic plan to ensure smooth movement.

Authorities had also made various arrangements on the occasion including erection of tents for medical aid at several places along the route for the devotees.
