Srinagar, June 25: Felicitating people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Sunday said the festival is a day of thanksgiving to almighty Allah for His blessings and mercy upon us.
“I pray to almighty Allah that may this Eid bring us happiness, peace and deliverance from tyranny and occupation,” Mirwaiz said in a statement issued to Kashmir Glory.
He appealed to people to reach out to the needy and poor sections of the society and help them. “While remembering our martyrs and their grieving families, we should celebrate the occasion with austerity and simplicity and in keeping with the tenets of Islam,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr prayers would be held at per the programme at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar at 10:00 am.
“Prior to Eid prayers, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq would shed light on the philosophy of Eid al-Fitr in his sermon from 9:00 am,” it said in a statement.
The Anjuman also urged the people to participate in the Ijtima in large numbers to express unity and bring prayer mats along with them.
It also announced that Zakat al-Fitr (Sadqa Fitr) for this year has been fixed at Rs 50 per person that is mandatory to be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
“In case of rains, the prayers would be held at Jamia Masjid Srinagar at the same time,” the Anjuman said.
