Bandipora, Oct 13: In consonance with Army’s persistent endeavour to promote sports and drive local youth towards healthy living, Army Camp at Paribal Tekri (under aegis of Watlab Sector)  completed a Rowing Training Tour, which was organised at Army Rowing Node Jabalpur (MP), for children hailing from the terrorism affected and far flung villages of Alusa Tehsil of Bandipora District (under Sadhbhavana). The Tour was organised from 05 September to  13 October 2017.

A total of 10 boys from Bangladesh, Zirimanz and MS Mir villages were selected for the training, based on their performance in Jashn-e-Wular 2016. The Tour was aimed at providing quality training for rowing and to identify raw talent for subsequent recruitment into Army through Sports quota. It also instilled a sense of awareness and national integration amongst the youth. When the Team reached Jabalpur, they were trained for three weeks on various aspects like strengthening and stamina development, swimming and argometer training.  In the fourth week they trained in realistic conditions and were tested for their skills. Nazir Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar and resident of Zirimanz village was adjudged the Best Performer.

The Team reached back Paribal Tekri on 13 Oct 2017 and was flagged-in by Officiating Commander, Watlab Sector. The family members of the Team were jubilant and welcomed their children with full fervour.  Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Sarpanch of Bangladesh thanked the Army and said “In a militancy prone area, where there is lack of development, awareness and support, such steps by Army will aid in guiding the youth in a positive direction and will also motivate the youth in nearby villages to participate in sports in large numbers.”

The youth have returned with everlasting memories of Tour and knowledge gained will hold them in good stead for future. Conduct of such events, will not only create a optimistic psyche in the youth but also enhance the strong affability between local populace and Army.
