Srinagar, June 14 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid today said Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit was behind the spate of attacks that rattled south Kashmir and Sopore yesterday evening.
Vaid told television wire ANI that Hizbul Mujahideen was not behind the attacks as was claimed by the outfit. “Hizbul Mujahedeen (HM) is a group which has a larger presence, but the Jaish-e-Mohammad was behind yesterday’s incidents as per our intelligence report, though the HM has claimed it, but it’s not true.”
The DGP said that things are under control after the attacks. “Two minor injuries have occurred to two constables and nine CRPF jawans. No casualties have been reported. Ramzan is a time when escalation takes place in terrorist’s activities. South Kashmir has presence of more local terrorists,” he said.
He also promised that this year’s Amarnath Yatra would pass off peacefully.
“We will take care of that,” he was quoted by ANI. Pertinently three militant outfits including Hizb, Jaish and Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attacks. (GNS)
